On Sunday April 13th 2008, I had the privilege to meet Chris Jericho, not once, but twice. 9 days prior to the day, I'd found out that Chris was doing a book signing, in none other than the place where the houseshow I was attending was being held - Nottingham. I was extremely happy, excited, and the days leading up to April 13th, I was nervous, anxious, worried and excited, all in one.
I wanted to be sure that I was going to meet him on the day, therefore I was awake at 5:30am and outside Waterstones book store -where the signing was being held- for 8:45. I joined a small queue and waited until 11, when we were allowed to wait inside. We were each given a ticket number and an oppurtunity to buy his book. I bought the EU version, even though I had the US. At around 12:30pm, the first few people queueing -which included me-, were allowed into the signing room, I was in the front row of the queue. As time progressed nearer to 1:30pm, I became so nervous, I was shaking. And at 1:40pm, a few WWE workers with cameras got us chanting "Y2J!" and holding our books in the air, as everyone was doing so, I was looking at the entrance ready for Chris to enter, and he did. I was literally star struck, and he walked right past me. The feeling seeing your idol right in front of you is indescribable. He stood behind the table and motioned for eveveryone to cheer, and then said "bye guys", and went to leave, but laughed and stood back behind the table. He looked around the crowd, and he looked at me and I just stood there with a crazy grin on my face and took a picture. I waited around 5 minutes and took a few pictures before it was finally my turn to meet him. I handed my book and camera to a man standing next to the table, and I walked up to the table, doing so, it was the scariest moment of my life. My brain turned to mush and I totally forgot everything I was going to say to him. He greeted me with "Hi" and "How are you?", but I just couldn't speak. He signed my book and then looked at me, and then my t-shirt, which is when the picture was taken. He told me "that's an old school t-shirt", and I couldn't reply, I just smiled and laughed slightly. As I was about to be ushered away by security, I built up courage that I didn't even know I had, and I spoke to him. I wasn't going to waste my oppurtunity. I got out of my bag a special fanbook I'd made for him, full of Y2J graphics, the URL to the site, and a fan letter. "I have something to give to you" is all I said to him. In response, he looked at me and said "oh really?". I went to hand him the fan book, but a security guard grabbed it, but I was NOT going to let them take it from me. I looked at Chris, who smiled and told the security guard "no it's okay, she can give it to me" and he gave me this gorgeous smile and I was about ready to faint. He looked at the cover, then he looked up to me again and said "thankyou so much", all I did was smile. I then had to leave. I slowly began to walk away when I was approached by a guy who worked for the WWE. He wanted to interview me about meeting Jericho, and I replied with an overly excited "REALLY?!". He took me to the back of the signing room where I waited for 10 minutes, then I was taken to the front of the signing room, Chris was only a few feet away. I had a camera pointed at me and a WWE microphone, Chris was in the background. I was asked what my name was and how it was spelt [I don't know why], where I had come from, what it was like to meet Jericho, and what the book was that I gave to him. Then I was given a REAL WWE contract to sign. The first time, meeting my idol was an experience I'll remember for the rest of my life, and with Chris being so nice to me, it only made it more amazing. Looking back to this day, I still cannot believe I got to meet him, and I'm eternally happy because of it.
Not thinking my day could get any better, I was more than happy to have thought wrong when I met him again on the same day. Me and my friends were in the hotel they were staying at after the book signing, waiting in the lobby. It was around 3:15pm and my friend told me Jericho was outside, making his way in. My heart skipped a beat and I didn't know what to do. I was scared that if I went up to him, asked him for a picture and he said no, I'd be devastated. But, I walked to the entrance and waited, so he'd have to walk past me. I was in fangirl mode, but I wasn't acting crazy, I was scared to death and couldn't even speak. My friend asked him for me if I could have a picture and he said "Sure". I was so relieved, and so happy. I stood to his left and my friend the other side, and he put his arm around me, leaning on my back and my mind was going crazy! We had the photo, he said "Thank you guys" and he went to his hotel room. Later on, at around 5:45pm, I saw him leave the hotel and he again walked right past me.
It was the most amazing day for me, getting to meet him twice in a day, it was so surreal and I only hope I get another experience like those, because I couldn't have asked for a better one.
